Metin Akdülger studied International Relations at Koç University without suspecting he would end up living off fiction. But university theater crossed his path. On that Istanbul campus, he began rehearsing texts by Martin McDonagh and understanding that his physique could be a tool or a cage.
It wasn't all immediate.
In 2013, he got the chance to play Orkun in Medcezir. That role as a wealthy, scorned villain gave him the visibility he needed to break into mainstream commercial projects. But he wanted more than to be the antagonist of a teen series. Before accepting new projects, he decided to keep training in combat techniques and body expression.
To play Sultan Murad IV in Muhteşem Yüzyıl: Kösem during 2016, he had to build muscle mass and change the way he walked. The physical demands of historical shoots in Turkey are brutal. He spent hours filming battle scenes under the Istanbul sun, carrying real armor.
Critics began to take notice of him for his ability to hold the silence. His performance as a monarch on the edge of madness marked his move into mature acting. And he did it without resorting to the unnecessary screaming that tends to plague these period dramas.
And the strategy worked.
In 2018, he appeared in Şahsiyet, a production that changed how international audiences perceived Turkish series. He played a police officer in a plot about serial killers and poetic justice. That shoot was short but intense. Because Metin prefers characters with moral flaws over the flat heroes that fill broadcast television.
In 2019, he joined the cast of Atiye to bring Ozan to life. The series was one of Netflix's first major launches on Turkish soil. But the actor preferred to keep a low profile off set. He lives in a home full of musical instruments and ancient history books.
Fame is a side effect.
He rarely attends industry parties because he prefers to spend his time on his band or writing his own scripts. In 2023, he focused on more intimate projects before returning to the media spotlight. So his return to episodic formats was a considered decision, based solely on the quality of the script.
During 2024, he worked on the production of Kimler Geldi, Kimler Geçti alongside a top-tier cast. In this series he plays an architect navigating the complexities of modern love. It's a much lighter register than his work in historical drama or psychological thrillers. But he keeps the sharp gaze that makes him recognizable among hundreds of similar faces.
In 2020, he appeared in the short film Anons, a piece that barely circulated beyond minor film festivals. His salary from big productions allows him to fund independent art-house projects where the budget is practically nonexistent. The contract for his next shoot in 2025 includes a total confidentiality clause covering the script.
