At thirteen, Miranda Kerr won the Dolly magazine model contest, and the Australian press was outraged that a minor had been photographed in a swimsuit. That 1997 controversy was her trial by fire with the tabloids. She finished high school in Brisbane, studying nutrition and psychology, before boarding a transoceanic flight.
New York wasn't expecting anyone.
She arrived in Manhattan in 2004 with a modest contract from Next Model Management and the discipline of a small-town athlete. She walked for fashion brands and fronted denim campaigns, but her real commercial breakthrough came with Maybelline New York in 2006. That advertising contract put her on billboards across half the planet and opened the doors to Victoria's Secret.
In 2007, she signed as the first Australian model on the fixed roster of the American lingerie brand to fill the spot left by Gisele Bündchen. Back then, the lingerie house worked like a giant classic movie studio, where each model played a character engineered down to the millimeter for mass audiences. That same year, she appeared as herself in an episode of the sitcom How I Met Your Mother.
Television was not her goal. She quickly understood that runway work comes with a relentless expiration date set by the biological clock and the arbitrary decisions of casting directors.
During the 2011 show, she wore the Fantasy Bra valued at two and a half million dollars, while the gossip press chased her over her marriage to actor Orlando Bloom. Behind the scenes, though, Kerr wasn't talking about dresses or spotlights. She was talking about retention rates and botanical formulas.
In 2009, she founded KORA Organics using her own savings, without turning to outside investment funds. Back then, certified organic cosmetics were a niche market reserved for health food stores with unappealing packaging.
The industry considered the project a passing whim.
Kerr spent months searching for laboratories in Melbourne that could certify her formulas under the French Ecocert seal. She insisted that production water be filtered through rose quartz crystals and that the base ingredient be noni extract, a South Pacific fruit her grandmother used to give her as a child for sunburn.
The business took nearly a decade to generate large-scale net profits. In 2017, the brand made its leap onto the shelves of the Sephora chain in the United States and began distributing in more than thirty countries.
By 2020, the businesswoman was spending more time reviewing balance sheets and lab tests than in front of a camera. Her self-help books Treasure Yourself from 2010 and Empower Yourself from 2013 had paved the way in publishing, allowing her to connect directly with her customers without media intermediaries.
She married Evan Spiegel, co-founder of Snapchat, in 2017, and Kerr kept majority control of her cosmetics company. In February 2024, she gave birth to her fourth child, Pierre, while coordinating the distribution of a new anti-aging line based on kakadu plum.
And the numbers don't lie.
In 2025, KORA Organics signed distribution deals with more than four thousand physical retail locations in Europe and Asia, while maintaining a share of certified organic ingredients above 95 percent across its entire product range.
