The Stigma of the Crown

In 2008, Miriam Leone won Miss Italia, and that became her first major professional challenge. The beauty queen label often acts as a concrete wall in European cinema. She knew this perfectly well.

Before acting, she worked as a host on RAI morning shows. But her mind was elsewhere. She studied literature at the University of Catania and devoured scripts, while the general public only saw a magnetic mane of red hair.

And the opportunity came through television.

In 2015, the series 1992 changed the game for her. Playing Veronica Castello was no easy task. That character was a woman willing to do anything for success during the Tangentopoli scandal. Leone gave the role a vulnerability no one expected from a former model.

It was a risky bet that paid off.

The transformation into Eva Kant

Her move to the big screen was not immediate. She worked with directors such as Pif on In guerra per amore during 2016. But the international market took notice of her when she slipped into the role of Eva Kant.

In 2021, the Manetti brothers chose her for the adaptation of Diabolik. The challenge was both physical and aesthetic. It grossed 2.6 million euros at the Italian box office despite the restrictions of the era.

Her Eva Kant was no mere ornament to the lead character. Leone built a cold and precise woman. She reprised the role in 2022 and 2023 in the sequels Ginko all’attacco! and Chi sei?.

But success did not pull her away from her Sicilian roots.

The weight of history and legacy

In 2023, she took on the role of Giulia Portalupi in the epic production I Leoni di Sicilia. The Disney+ series adapted Stefania Auci's literary phenomenon. It was a massive period shoot in which the actress had to contend with corsets and a nineteenth-century mindset.

Because Leone prefers characters who have something to lose.

In 2024, she stepped into the shoes of journalist Oriana Fallaci for the series Miss Fallaci. The project focused on the years 50 of the correspondent in New York and Hollywood. The role demanded a complete change of vocal register to move away from her own accent.
