Naomi Battrick was born in Wokingham in 1991, and her first serious paid job came through British television. In 2008, she appeared in The My Parents Are Aliens as a supporting character who already hinted at her ability to carry close-ups. She was seventeen and had an acting training built on daily practice more than on prestigious international academies.
The English industry gives nothing away.
Over 2012, she took part in The Indian Doctor and the long-running Doctors. But it was in 2013 that her international profile took off with the premiere of Crossing Lines. There, she played Sophie Fontaine under the eye of producers looking for faces that could convey coldness and vulnerability at the same time. In the European co-production market, performers like her are a safe bet.
In 2014, she shot the film Blood Moon, and a year later she joined the cast of Waterloo Road. So by the time she turned twenty-five, she had already logged more screen time than many veterans of the London scene. Her method relies on economy of gestures and a gaze that often says much more than the original script.
In 2017, she accepted the role of Jocelyn Woodbry in the series Jamestown. It was a three-season shoot in which the actress had to learn to handle a corset and dialogue loaded with political venom. The Sky One production demanded serious physical stamina because of the harsh weather on location. And the bet paid off.
That performance opened the doors to prestige television for her.
In 2019, she wrapped up her time in the Virginia settlement and looked for projects that would move her away from the period-drama actress label. But fate pulled her back into the past in 2022 with The Serpent Queen. In this production, she brought Anne d’Etampes to life and shared scenes with Samantha Morton in a recreation of the French court that avoided the usual romantic embellishments.
British critics noted that her presence brought a necessary tension to the palace scenes. But she preferred to talk about the technique needed to avoid fainting in heavy silk costumes. Before filming, she reads the script looking for the cracks in the character so she can humanize women whom official history tends to paint as villains.
In 2023, she appeared in the film Bank of Dave playing Henrietta. It was a change of pace after years of period productions and demanding costume dramas. The movie did well on digital platforms and let audiences see Battrick in a relaxed, contemporary setting.
Over 2024, she remained in the series The Chelsea Detective playing Detective Layla Walsh. The role calls for a different physicality and a dry tone that suits the British procedural style. On this project, the actress has shot more than ten episodes while keeping a steady production pace at the London studios.
In 2025, her schedule included work on audio fiction projects and voice-over for high-budget video games. Shoots in the English capital often stretched to fourteen hours a day in winter.
