Nicholas Braun is six feet, six inches tall. That height shaped his early career in an industry that tends to prefer average-height leads so as not to complicate camera framing. In 2005, he made his film debut in Sky High and soon became a familiar face in Disney Channel family productions.
During that period, he appeared in Minutemen in 2008 and in Princess Protection Program in 2009. Scripts always cast him as the clueless friend or the teenager overwhelmed by circumstances. Yet his gaze already conveyed an odd mix of shyness and shrewdness that went far beyond the teen genre.
No one expected that height to become his greatest dramatic asset.
In 2012, he landed a role in The Perks of Being a Wallflower. It was a necessary step away from children's programming and proof that he could handle darker material. Although the work was steady, directors still saw him as a supporting actor who was hard to place in lead storylines.
Everything changed dramatically in 2018 with the premiere of Succession on HBO. Braun played Greg Hirsch across all four seasons of the series and turned a supporting character into the story's moral and comedic center. He earned three consecutive Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
His portrayal of cousin Greg relied on stammering and a physical style that used his long limbs to create discomfort. The character was more than comic relief. He was an ambitious young man learning to survive in a world of financial sharks while keeping his look of innocence.
The show's success came to an end in 2023 after 39 episodes were filmed.
That year, the actor decided to explore darker territory. He starred in Cat Person in 2023, playing Robert, a man whose ambiguity sparked intense debate about consent on social media. It was a risky bet to break away from the friendly image mainstream audiences had of him after years in prestige television.
In 2024, director Jason Reitman cast him for a complex technical challenge in the film Saturday Night. Braun had to play two essential figures of American culture at the same time: Jim Henson and Andy Kaufman. He had to work with two completely opposite voices and body languages within the same shoot.
And the gamble paid off.
Critics praised his ability to disappear beneath Kaufman's wig and the sensitivity needed to bring the creator of the Muppets to life. This project confirmed that his career did not rely on a single television hit. In 2024, he also took part in DreamQuil alongside Elizabeth Banks, exploring the genre of satirical science fiction.
The film about the origins of SNL had a budget of $25 million.
