Nicholas Galitzine wasn't chasing fame when he went to his first audition. In 2014, he showed up for the casting of The Beat Beneath My Feet, pushed by a rugby injury that forced him to rethink his athletic future. That small film shot in London put him in front of the camera for the first time without any prior training at a professional acting school.
His family has roots in the Russian aristocracy, but he grew up as an ordinary kid in the south of the British capital. He studied at Dulwich College, where he first became interested in theater as an amateur. But it was that 2014 production that convinced him to move to Los Angeles and try his luck in an industry he knew nothing about.
The road wasn't straight.
For a time, he took on supporting roles in films such as High Strung in 2016 and Handsome Devil that same year. In the latter, he played a young rugby player who hides his sexuality at an Irish boarding school. That role allowed him to reconnect with his athletic past while he began catching the attention of international casting directors for his ability to handle physically demanding drama.
In 2021, the project came along that changed his level of media exposure. He played Prince Robert in the musical version of Cinderella, produced by Amazon MGM Studios. Sharing the screen with Camila Cabello gave him a social media visibility he had never experienced before and linked him to the major Hollywood studios for the first time.
But his real surge in popularity came in 2022 with the release of Purple Hearts on Netflix. The film racked up more than 220 million hours viewed in its first weeks on the platform. As a result, his name went from a British promise to an absolute priority for the algorithms of major streaming content producers.
Audience numbers dictated his next move.
In 2023, he starred in Red, White & Royal Blue, where he brought Prince Henry to life. The success of this romantic comedy reinforced his ability to attract young audiences with stories set in institutional settings. But Galitzine wanted something different to keep the industry from typecasting him exclusively in European royalty or youthful leading-man roles.
That is why he accepted the role of George Villiers in the series Mary & George, which premiered in 2024. In this British production, he explored a much darker and more manipulative tone alongside Julianne Moore. The shoot took place in various locations across England and demanded a level of psychological intensity far removed from his earlier work in romantic films.
In 2024, he premiered The Idea of You alongside Anne Hathaway. This time he played a pop star who begins a romance with a woman older than him, under constant media pressure. The chemistry between the two actors was the core of a marketing campaign that dominated online conversation for months before the official release.
His schedule filled up with long-term contracts.
In 2024, his casting was confirmed to play He-Man in the new adaptation of Masters of the Universe, directed by Travis Knight. The release of this blockbuster is scheduled for June 2026 under Amazon MGM Studios. For this role, the actor had to begin a specific months-long physical training program to build muscle mass.
The contract for this film includes exclusivity clauses and technical preparation in handling choreographed weapons. The estimated shooting budget exceeds $150 million.
