Purple Hearts

Cassie Salazar lives in a small, run-down apartment and has to get by on her own. She works as a waitress and barista in Oceanside, California, and sings with her band, The Loyal, at a local bar. Six months ago, she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, and insulin is hard for her to afford. Her income doesn't stretch far enough: she has to choose between paying for medication or paying rent, and she can't do both. She works several jobs to make ends meet while her illness can't wait. The film is directed by Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum and stars Sofia Carson as Cassie, in a story that begins with this financial and medical pressure.
