Sofia Carson

Sofía Daccarett Char decided that her stage surname would be her maternal grandmother's. Born in Florida in 1993, this choice was the starting point of a personal brand that aimed to move away from family ties in Colombia and build its own path in the American industry. She studied communications at UCLA while trying to break into the Los Angeles audition circuit.

The plan worked out sooner than expected.

In 2014, she landed a small role on the Disney Channel series Austin & Ally. But a year later, her face became recognizable worldwide when she played Evie in the original movie Descendants. The production not only drew a huge kids' audience, it also got her signed to Hollywood Records to launch her music career.

That blue-haired character kept her busy for three installments of the franchise and several spin-off animated projects. Carson avoided the usual stagnation of young actors by alternating filming Descendants 2 in 2017 with independent film roles and professional voice work.

In 2019, she tried to make the leap to adult drama with Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists. The series did not get the run she hoped for and was canceled after a single season.

There was no time for lamenting.

Netflix crossed her path in 2020 with the dance comedy Feel the Beat. It was the first sign that her profile fit perfectly into the consumption model of streaming platforms. Her ability to attract young audiences remained intact despite having left the Disney era behind.

The real commercial breakthrough came in 2022 with the release of Purple Hearts. On this production, she didn't limit herself to acting in front of the camera. She served as executive producer and composed the original soundtrack, which gave her a creative autonomy that few actors of her generation get on big-budget projects.

The movie racked up more than 150 million viewing hours in its first two weeks on the catalog. This numerical success proved her ability to handle projects from development through music post-production.

In 2024, she took part in the action thriller Carry-On alongside Taron Egerton. This project marked her entry into fast-paced commercial suspense films. She also joined the cast of The Life of Chuck, an adaptation of Stephen King directed by Mike Flanagan that won the Audience Award at the Toronto Film Festival.

During 2025, she focused her efforts on filming The Last Disturbance of Madeline Hynde. On this project, she worked under director Rita Kalnejais on a production that explores much darker psychological nuances than her previous work.

The distribution contract for this latest film closed for close to 20 million dollars in the international market.
