Nisa Sofiya Aksongur was born in Istanbul in 2011, and before turning ten she already knew what it meant to carry the dramatic weight of a big-budget production. Her face went global in 2019 thanks to Miracle in Cell No. 7, the prison drama that broke box office records in Turkey and ended up on screens across half the world through streaming platforms. Her chemistry with actor Aras Bulut İynemli was no accident but the result of an exhausting rehearsal process for a girl her age.
In that film, she played Ova, the daughter of a man with an intellectual disability who is wrongly accused of murder. The film grossed more than $15 million in its home country alone. But what mattered most for her career was not the figure. It was her ability to project a maturity beyond her years on camera without losing the natural gestures of childhood.
And the gamble paid off.
Before that international breakthrough, she had already gone through the demands of Turkish daily series. In 2016, she made her television debut with Adini Sen Koy, and that same year she appeared in the historical drama Muhtesem Yüzyıl: Kösem. Filming in Turkey is known for its grueling days. So Aksongur learned the craft in a high-pressure environment where child actors must perform at the same professional level as adults.
Many child actors disappear after a massive hit, but she kept up a steady workload. In 2019, she appeared in the series Kuzgun, and a year later she joined the cast of Yeni Hayat. In the latter production, she played Ece, a girl caught up in a plot involving bodyguards and family secrets. Filming was halted by the global health crisis, and the series ended up shorter than initially planned.
It was no stroke of luck.
In 2021, she joined the cast of Sihirli Annem, a modernized version of a classic fantasy series in her country. The project let her explore a less dramatic register aimed at a younger audience. But the most significant change came in 2022 with her role in Pera Palas'ta Gece Yarısı. In this period series for Netflix, she played the young version of the lead character in a plot involving time travel and political conspiracies in Istanbul during the 1920s.
Her transition from child star to teen actress was handled with very controlled media exposure. Her family and agents avoided excessive interviews to prioritize her education. In 2023, she stayed involved in scripted television projects while her social media profile grew to over two million followers. Her advertising image is valued in the thousands of Turkish lira for every children's fashion campaign she fronts.
Filming her scenes for Pera Palas'ta Gece Yarısı took place on sets built specifically to recreate the historic Istanbul hotel. The production costs of that series exceeded the usual standards of Turkish broadcast television. Her contract in 2021 for the remake of Sihirli Annem included specific clauses to ensure that shooting days would not interfere with her final primary school exams.
