In 2025, Patricia Medina took the stage at the Teatro Cervantes in Málaga to present La Argentina, lejos de las palabras. That premiere at the Málaga festival was not just another item on her agenda. It confirmed a vision that had been developing for years, between archival material and choreographic research. The film explores the figure of Antonia Mercé and does so by moving away from the conventional structures of the biographical documentary to focus on gesture and the memory of the body.
And the gamble paid off.
Because Medina doesn't see cinema as a set of separate compartments. Her training at ECAM in Madrid and her time at the Federal University of Bahia in Brazil allowed her to build a language where real imagery coexists with performance. In 2017, she entered the Madrid film school after having worked in production for TVE1 and at the Teatro La Latina. That mix of disciplines defines her career. She doesn't just aim to tell stories but to capture the physical trace that the protagonists leave in space.
In 2020, she joined the Blur Films team as a production coordinator. It was a stage of very demanding technical work in which she managed large-scale projects for global platforms. Her work stands out on Fearless. Marc Márquez for DAZN and on the documentary Oxygen Education, starring Jorge Valdano. In these projects she learned to manage the timing of large formats and the pressure of international shoots with elite athletes.
But her interest in the intimate side of life never faded.
For six years she shot personal footage that eventually became La Mudanza. This project was mentored by Luis López Carrasco and ended up evolving into something more complex. In 2023, she received funding from the Ministry of Culture to develop Crisálida. This piece combines video installation with live performance and shows that Medina feels at home on the border between the movie theater and the museum. There is no fear of narrative emptiness in her work. There is a constant search for the frame that best captures human fragility.
At the start of 2022, she joined the team at La Máquina de Luz. From this platform, she has directed music productions and documentaries for giants such as Sony Music, Amazon Video and Warner Music Spain. Her ability to coordinate crews at production companies like Vietnam or San Pelícano has made her a key figure in the Madrid film industry. She knows that today's cinema demands a deep understanding of financing and distribution processes without losing its artistic essence along the way.
There was no turning back.
In 2021, her short film Los pájaros azules was selected for the Clermont-Ferrand festival and DOCMA at Matadero Madrid. That work already showed a visual maturity unusual for someone just starting out. Patricia Medina still operates today through independence and collaboration with labels such as Selected Films to bring her work to the international circuit. The feature film about Antonia Mercé had a final production cost of roughly 150,000 euros, funded through co-production and public grants.
