To achieve this, Diego leads a double life. By day he pretends to be a vain dandy. By night he becomes Zorro, a masked swordsman who fights injustice. The character comes from the work of Johnston McCulley. The series aired on ABC and stars Guy Williams.

Trivia about Zorro

Children inspired by the series drew graffiti of the letter "Z" on desks and walls at schools across the United States.
Despite its solid ratings, the series ended after two seasons due to a financial dispute between Disney and the network over ownership of Zorro.
Disney kept paying 3,500 dollars a year until 1967 to retain the television rights to the character.
The theme song, written by Norman Foster and George Bruns, was a hit for The Chordettes, reaching number 17 on the Hit Parade.
The main exteriors, such as the plaza and the barracks, were built on the Disney backlot in Burbank, while Don Diego's hacienda was built on a soundstage.
After the cancellation, the characters returned in four one-hour special episodes aired as part of the Disney anthology between 1960 and 1961.
The series ran for 78 episodes, and according to D23, the permanent Zorro set was the first permanent construction of its kind on the Disney studios lot in Burbank.
