Perry Mattfeld

Perry Mattfeld is five foot ten, and that shaped her training from childhood. Before stepping onto a set, she spent more than a decade at the dance academy of Debbie Allen. The discipline of ballet gave her a rigid structure that she later applied to acting at university.

In 2014, she earned her bachelor's degree from the USC School of Dramatic Arts.

Her early work was low-key and functional. She appeared in Wizards of Waverly Place and had brief stints in other youth-oriented productions. But in 2017, she landed the role of Mel in Shameless. That experience taught her the pace of big-budget cable productions.

The industry didn't hand him anything.

The Weight of Murphy Mason

The role that changed her career was Murphy in the series In the Dark in 2019. Playing a blind woman struggling with addiction demanded a level of technical rigor that few actresses her age were willing to take on. She spent months living alongside a blind consultant and her guide dog, mechanically studying every gesture and movement.

Many critics questioned whether the role should have gone to a blind actress. But Mattfeld defended her work, drawing on her technical training and her complete immersion in the daily life of her mentor. The series lasted four seasons on air and ended its run in 2022.

And the risk was worth it.

New Directions and Production

In 2024, she appeared in The Idea of You alongside Anne Hathaway. Her role as Eva showed she could hold her own in a big-budget romantic comedy without losing her grounding. That same year, she joined the voice cast of Mufasa: The Lion King.

Her personal life also drew intense media attention in 2023.

She married former NFL player Mark Sanchez in a ceremony in Oaxaca. The couple kept their relationship fairly private until wedding photos reached the press. Mattfeld, however, is still focused on her career behind the camera and has begun looking for projects where she can work as an executive producer to control her scripts.

In 2024, her estimated net worth topped $2 million following the end of advertising deals and syndication rights from her previous series.
