Synopsis of Homecoming

Heidi Bergman worked as a social worker at Homecoming, a support center helping soldiers transition to civilian life, run by Geist Group. Four years later, she is trying to rebuild her life: she lives with her mother and works as a waitress. However, she barely remembers what she experienced during her time at the facility. Her calm is shattered when Thomas Carrasco, a Department of Defense official, asks her why she left the center. Heidi will have to confront her own gaps in memory while he keeps pressing his questions. Created by Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg based on the podcast of the same name, the series streams on Amazon Prime Video and stars Julia Roberts and Stephan James.

Trivia about Homecoming

Universal Cable Productions acquired the rights to Gimlet Media's podcast Homecoming in December 2016, beating out offers from Sony, Fox and TriStar.

The exterior of the Homecoming facility, the lobby and the Geist headquarters were filmed at the former Toyota corporate headquarters in Torrance, California.

Esmail directed every episode of the first season but did not direct any of the second, although he stayed on as executive producer.

Season one has a 98% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an average score of 8.3 out of 10 based on 99 reviews.

The second season brought Janelle Monáe in as a new lead, with Chris Cooper as Leonard Geist and Joan Cusack as Francine Bunda; it premiered on May 22, 2020.

The first season was shot over 65 days to complete its ten episodes, compared with the four days used to record the first season of the original podcast.

Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg wrote the podcast script over the phone, from San Francisco and New York, and did not meet in person until they had finished the first season.
