Jarhead

The story of a twenty-year-old kid in the Gulf War has little to do with what newspapers or television offered at the time. It depicts the war seen from the ground, with images of oil wells burning in the night like comets fallen from the sky; it speaks of noisy, horny, dusty recruits, full of enthusiasm and, at the same time, terrified at the idea of running into the enemy at any moment; of young guys dropped into a barren terrain, who killed time playing soccer with gas masks on, while waiting for packages from home, letters and porn magazines, who bet on scorpion fights and got drunk to celebrate Christmas. Yet in this hellish situation, unlikely friendships were born, eternal loyalties, a camaraderie nothing could break, the brotherhood of the “jarheads” who swore eternal fidelity… “semper fi”.
