Chance at a 7-Eleven

One afternoon in 1999, a talent scout stopped her at a convenience store in San Diego while she was buying coffee. Sarah Roemer was fifteen years old and had no intention of becoming the face of a film generation. But that chance encounter took her straight to the runways of New York and, shortly after, to the recording studios of Los Angeles.

Her move from modeling to acting was not a slow process. In 2006, she landed a role in the sequel to The Grudge 2, and producers noticed that the camera naturally gravitated toward her. She wasn't chasing fame, but steady work.

And the gamble paid off.

Her breakout came in 2007 with the release of Disturbia. In this teen thriller, she played the neighbor of Shia LaBeouf, and the chemistry between them carried a story that exceeded all box office expectations. The film earned 118 million dollars on a modest budget of 20 million.

Managing Quiet Fame

After the success of Hachi: A Dog’s Tale, Roemer's choices in 2009 were projects that stayed away from the media noise of big-budget blockbusters. She worked alongside Richard Gere on the film, which became a cult favorite thanks to its emotional weight, but she kept a low profile during promotion and public events.

She tried her hand at television with The Event between 2010 and 2011. The NBC series generated great initial buzz for its alien conspiracy storyline. But the network decided to cancel it after the first season due to declining ratings in the final episodes.

The industry can be relentless at times.

In 2013, she joined the cast of Chosen for the streaming platform Crackle. During the filming of this action series, she met Chad Michael Murray, and their professional relationship led to a marriage celebrated in 2015. From that point on, her screen appearances became more selective so she could prioritize her family life and raising her children.

Fast Shoots and Action

Roemer's work over the past decade has focused on independent film and high-impact action thrillers. In 2021, she followed up with two high-profile projects in this genre: Survive the Game and The Fortress. In both productions, she shared the bill with Bruce Willis before the actor's full retirement.

These films are often shot in record time to optimize production costs. The filming of The Fortress in 2021 was completed on a schedule of just ten days of work on location.
