High Plains Drifter

In 1870, a Stranger rides on horseback past the grave of a former Sheriff, Jim Duncan, in the border town of Lago in the Southwest United States. The owners of the Lago mining company, Dave Drake and Morgan Allen, win the support of the small town's residents to hire the Stranger. He must protect the community from three gunmen, whose arrival is imminent after being released from prison following false charges brought by the Drake-Allen mining company. The Stranger accepts the job on the condition that he carry it out against the three outlaws and, among other things, asks that the entire town be painted bright red and renamed "Hell."
