Lust, Caution

Shanghai, 1942. The city is occupied by the Japanese. Mrs. Mak, a wealthy and sophisticated woman, recalls how everything began in 1938. Her real name isn't Mak but Wong Chia Chi. Shortly before World War II broke out (1939-1945), her father fled to England and left her behind in China. She was a university student when she met Kuang Yu Min, who had just founded a theater company to promote patriotism. Wong Chia Chi became the company's leading actress. Kuang, for his part, persuaded a group of students to assassinate Mr. Yee, a prominent collaborator with the Japanese. Wong Chia Chi played her part in the plan by posing as Mrs. Mak: her mission was to befriend Yee's wife, win Yee's trust and seduce him. Everything went according to plan, until an unexpected event occurred.
