A Satanic Action Comedy

The film follows Ángel Berriatúa, a Basque priest from the Aránzazu Sanctuary, who believes he has deciphered a secret message in the Book of Revelation according to Saint John the Evangelist. According to his reading, the Antichrist will be born on December 25, 1995 in Madrid, a city caught in a wave of vandalism and crime. Ángel wants to prevent that birth at all costs, but the text does not specify which exact place in the capital it will happen. With no clear lead to start from, the clock is ticking from the very first moment, and Christmas is approaching. Directed by Álex de la Iglesia and starring Álex Angulo, the story begins with a priest convinced he has very little time left to find the answer.

Trivia about The Day of the Beast

Álex de la Iglesia wanted to produce the film himself, but he needed 250 million pesetas and only managed to raise 60. After abandoning that idea, the project went to several production companies, which turned it down, until Andrés Vicente Gómez agreed to take it on.
In 1995, the director, screenwriter Jorge Guerricaechevarría, and production company Iberoamericana Films were sued for alleged plagiarism. The plaintiff, Tomás Cuevas Arroyo, claimed the film was an unauthorized adaptation of his unpublished work La luz. The courts dismissed the lawsuit.
Battista Lena's compositions do not appear on the soundtrack. The album includes tracks chosen by the director, and only two of them are heard in the film.
Filming began on January 23, 1995 and wrapped on March 18, according to the ICAA's official register of rated films.
