Synopsis of City of Shadows

In Barcelona, the charred body of a person is found on the facade of La Pedrera, and the investigation falls to two police officers from different forces. Milo Malart, an inspector with the Mossos d'Esquadra, is played by Isak Férriz. Rebeca Garrido, a sub-inspector with the National Police, is played by Verónica Echegui. Neither of them works the same way, and the case forces them to cooperate if they want to identify the culprit. The series is a production of Arcadia Motion Pictures for Netflix, based on the novel El verdugo de Gaudí. It all starts with a discovery nobody expected to find in such a visible place.

Trivia about City of Shadows

Verónica Echegui starred in the series in his last role before dying in August 2025, a fact the production has not hidden in its statements.

The series adapts the first installment of a literary saga starring Milo Malart, written by Aro Sáinz de la Maza.

Filming took place in Barcelona and Castelldefels, two locations in the province of Barcelona that appear in the production's making-of.

Jordi Rico joined the cast alongside Ana Wagener and Manolo Solo when Netflix announced that filming would begin in late 2024.

"City of Shadows" racked up 10.9 million views on Netflix during its first four weeks and spent four consecutive weeks in the global top 10 non-English-language series.

The series recorded 2.8 million views in its first two days; its second week was its most-watched, with 4.5 million views.

Some scenes were shot at Casa Milà and Palau Güell, but the production was unable to film at Park Güell.

As of December 16, 2025, Netflix had not renewed the series for a second season.
