What Season 1 of Sliders

Quinn Mallory, a gifted physics student, builds a device in his basement that can open portals between dimensions. During a test, he, his professor Maximillian Arturo, his colleague Wade Wells and Rembrandt, a singer who happened to be passing by, end up in a parallel universe. The device loses track of the original Earth, so the group must jump from one dimension to another while a timer shows when they can open a new vortex. At each stop, they find alternate versions of our planet, where history or the laws of physics have changed. There, they solve mysteries and face authoritarian societies. The four characters carry the story, and Quinn drives the journey forward with his invention.
