Synopsis of Tear Along the Dotted Line

Zero is a comic book artist in his thirties who lives in Rome. His conscience takes the form of a giant armadillo that only he can see. Together with his friends Sarah and Secco, he sets off on a trip to Biella, and along the way he reviews the issues he believes he got wrong. The one that weighs on him most is his relationship with Alice, one of his best friends, whom he had been in love with without ever confessing it. The series, created and written by Zerocalcare, arrives on Netflix as adult animation, and the author himself voices nearly all the characters. Valerio Mastandrea voices the armadillo.

Trivia about Tear Along the Dotted Line

During its release week, it became the most-watched series on Netflix in Italy and stayed in the Top 10 for the rest of November 2021.

In 2022, it received the Nastro d'Argento for Best Series of the Year, an award given by the Italian film journalists' union.

The series is based on Armadillo, the graphic novel with which Zerocalcare became known in 2011, and which had already been adapted into a film in 2018.

Before the series, Zerocalcare had made the miniseries Rebibbia Quarantine (2020) for the La7 program Propaganda Live.

Production took place largely during lockdown, and the nearly 200 crew members worked remotely without ever meeting in person.

Zerocalcare voiced all the characters except the Armadillo, played by Valerio Mastandrea.

The series premiered with its first two episodes at the Rome Film Fest before its release on Netflix.

It consists of six episodes of about 15 minutes each and was produced by Movimenti Production in collaboration with Bao Publishing.
