Alice Isaaz was born in Bordeaux on a Sunday in July 1991, and her life plan did not include filming. Her mother worked in a pharmacy and her father managed a network of medical sales representatives. She intended to follow a path in healthcare until a talent scout stopped her on a street in Biarritz during summer vacation.
That conversation changed her academic path.
In 2012, she made her film debut in La Cage dorée, but her real training took place at the Cours Florent. There she learned to manage a gaze that the camera immediately recognized as a high-value asset. In 2014, she starred in La Crème de la crème, and her performance as a cold, calculating business student earned her a César nomination for Best Actress Revelation.
The French film industry took notice.
Scripts began arriving with unusual frequency for someone barely past her twenties. In 2015, she took part in Un moment d’égarement alongside Vincent Cassel (a complex shoot given the film's subject matter) and proved she could hold her own opposite veteran figures of European cinema.
In 2016, a project came along that expanded her reach beyond France. Paul Verhoeven cast her in Elle, where she played Isabelle Huppert's daughter-in-law. Working with the Dutch director demands absolute technical precision, and although her role was supporting, she brought a quiet tension to it that did not go unnoticed at the Cannes Film Festival.
But Isaaz wasn't content with playing naive young women.
In 2018, she starred in Mademoiselle de Joncquières under the direction of Emmanuel Mouret. In this period drama, she played a young woman used as an instrument of revenge in Enlightenment-era France. The heavy costumes and theatrical rhythm of the dialogue posed a technical challenge, which she met with a restrained performance that stood apart from the mannerisms common to her generation.
Grossed more than five million dollars in the international market and became one of the most carefully crafted productions of that year.
In 2019, she filmed Le Mystère Henri Pick opposite Fabrice Luchini. The contrast between the youthful energy of her character and the seasoned presence of Luchini worked at the box office because Isaaz knew how to play restraint against the exuberance of her co-star.
In 2022, she appeared in Couleurs de l’incendie and Une belle course. The first plunged her into interwar France, while the second saw her share a fictional taxi ride with the legendary Line Renaud. Alice's ability to adapt to different historical periods without losing the naturalness of her gestures is one of her most consistent strengths.
In 2024, she took on the role of Marie Antoinette in the film Le Déluge alongside Guillaume Canet. The shoot focused on the final days of the monarchy before the execution and demanded a level of emotional intensity far greater than her previous work.
And the gamble paid off.
In 2024, she also took part in the series The New Look for an international streaming platform, playing Françoise. The production was shot entirely in Paris and explored the relationship between fashion and the Nazi occupation. In 2025, she worked on the series Néro, playing the character Hortense in a period story set in the 16th century.
Néro had a production budget of twelve million euros and filming stretched over four months on locations in southern France.
