Michèle Leblanc runs a thriving video game company in Paris with a firm hand, where her employees alternate between resentment and fascination with her. Her life is a well-oiled machine that allows no surprises. She has a strong personality and a temperament that lets her face reality without hesitation. One night, a man wearing a ski mask breaks into her home and attacks her. Michèle, however, does not call the police. She prefers to clean up the mess, erase any trace, and get back to her life as if nothing had happened. Paul Verhoeven directs this film, starring Isabelle Huppert, which was shot in French and set in Paris.

Trivia about Elle

During the rape scene, Isabelle Huppert says "Arrête!", a line that was not written in the script and that the actress delivered in French.
Verhoeven considered setting the film in Boston or Chicago, but felt that shooting it in the United States would be too difficult because of its violent content.
A sequence planned at the main police station in Paris was canceled after the Charlie Hebdo attack on January 7.
The film received a seven-minute standing ovation at its international premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
