Betsy Sodaro

Betsy Sodaro doesn't wait for permission to take the stage. Her voice sounds like gravel mixed with glitter, and the result is an electric presence that casting directors in Los Angeles spotted early. It all started on the stages of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. There, she learned that comedy isn't about waiting for the punchline but about leaping into the void without a net.

And the risk was worth it.

In 2012 she landed her first major role on the series Animal Practice. Although the show didn't last long on air, it showed the industry that Sodaro could carry a sitcom. But her real strength lies in her ability to turn supporting characters into the center of attention. She doesn't need to be the lead for viewers to have eyes only for her.

The roar behind the microphone

Voice work takes up a huge part of her schedule. In 2020, she voiced Clampers Buttonwillow in Trolls World Tour, and in 2022, she took part in Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank. Her vocal range is so distinctive that it has become a foolproof tool for major animated productions.

Sodaro treats the microphone as an extension of her body.

She doesn't just read lines. In 2023 she worked on the animated film Leo alongside Adam Sandler. The project racked up millions of viewing hours on digital platforms and confirmed that her name is synonymous with box office success in family entertainment. Her technique consists of exaggerating the physical traits of the drawing through her throat (an effort that often requires intensive vocal care after recording sessions).

Comedy on the Fringes

The series Disjointed in 2017 allowed her to explore a more biting humor. She played Dabby, a character who lived in a constant cloud of smoke and who demanded absolute physical control to avoid falling into cheap caricature. It was a period of heavy media exposure, but she preferred to keep a low profile off the set.

Many actors fear being typecast as the weird friend.

Sodaro, on the other hand, embraces that label and elevates it. In 2021 she joined the cast of Ghosts as Nancy, a cholera ghost who lives in the basement. It's a messy, noisy role that requires tedious makeup sessions before every shooting day. So the actress spends hours sitting still while layers of fake grime are applied to bring to life one of the characters most beloved by American audiences.

In 2023, she took part in the movie Self Reliance, directed by Jake Johnson. Filming was completed in just 19 days on location in Los Angeles under an independent production contract.
