Bex Taylor-Klaus didn't ask permission to break into the industry. In 2013, she auditioned for the series The Killing with an energy that caught casting directors off guard. They were looking for someone to play Bullet and found a person who didn't fit the usual molds of Los Angeles casting offices.
Bex was born in Atlanta in 1994 and grew up in a home where sports and theater shared space. But acting gave her a way to channel an intensity that was hard to ignore on screen. Her time in the third season of The Killing earned her critical acclaim for humanizing homeless youth in Seattle.
The casting call lasted just a few minutes.
After that breakthrough came roles that embraced the same tough, vulnerable style. On Arrow, she played Sin for 2013 and 2014. It was a supporting role, but an essential one for understanding the CW series' shift toward a darker tone. Audiences connected with the defiant gaze Bex held against the show's leads.
In 2015, MTV decided to adapt the Scream franchise for the small screen. Bex Taylor-Klaus took on the role of Audrey Jensen. It was no easy task, since she had to replace the best-friend archetype that 1990s cinema had etched in stone. Her performance moved away from cheap scares to focus on the paranoia and social isolation of a suspicious teenager.
And the gamble paid off.
For two seasons, Bex carried much of the show's dramatic weight. But traditional television was starting to feel too small for her storytelling ambitions. In 2016, she dove into voice acting with Voltron: Legendary Defender. She voiced Pidge (Katie Holt) in a series that ran until 2018 and built up seventy-six episodes in total.
This animation work was fundamental to her personal growth. Pidge was a character who challenged gender norms, and that resonated directly with Bex's own life. In 2018, she made her nonbinary identity public through her social media. It was a logical step after years of playing roles that already walked that border of gender expression.
But her activism didn't slow her work pace on set.
In 2018, she appeared in the Netflix film Dumplin'. She played Hannah Perez and shared scenes with Jennifer Aniston. The film marked a shift toward dramatic comedy with a message about body acceptance. Bex proved she could handle dry humor without losing the edge that had defined her since her early days in Atlanta.
Entering the 2020s brought more physically demanding projects. In the series Deputy, she played Brianna Bishop in 2020. The role called for a technical restraint that Bex handled with ease in a classic police drama setting. That same year, she married actress Alicia Sixtos in a private ceremony that American media covered discreetly.
In 2021, it was time for 13 Minutes. In this disaster film, she played a character trapped in a tornado in Oklahoma. Filming was complicated by the simulated weather conditions and the emotional weight of the script. But Bex's interest in horror and suspense films came roaring back a couple of years later.
Filming wrapped up in three weeks.
In 2023, Bex Taylor-Klaus starred in Trim Season. The horror film follows a group of young people working on a marijuana farm in Northern California who end up caught in a bloody ritual. The production had a tight budget and was shot mostly on location under strict safety protocols due to the use of practical effects and pyrotechnics.
The film premiered at the Overlook Film Festival in New Orleans in March 2023. The production team used Arri Alexa Mini cameras to capture the oppressive atmosphere of the forest. Bex Taylor-Klaus signed a confidentiality clause covering the prosthetic makeup process, which took four hours a day.
