Burak Tozkoparan never went looking for TV cameras. Before stepping onto a set, he spent his afternoons pounding the drums in garages in Istanbul. In 2011 he won a national music contest for high schools, and his only plan was to make a living playing drums.
But his physique and a gaze that jumps off the screen led him to change his plans. The Turkish industry courted him for his natural magnetism, and he had to learn acting on the fly while still studying at Okan University.
And the gamble paid off.
He made his fiction debut in 2014 with the series Paramparça. He played Ozan Gürpınar, and the show was such a massive hit that his face was exported to more than fifty countries. That shoot was his real acting school, since he shared scenes with veteran actors who never forgave a mistake.
After wrapping up his run in Paramparça in 2017, he joined the cast of Kırgın Çiçekler. There he played Commissioner Ali and began moving away from the troubled teen image to show he could carry police drama. Audiences connected with his restraint.
In 2019, he accepted the challenge of Tek Yürek. The role required him to skate on ice and play hockey with real technical skill. Tozkoparan refused to use stunt doubles for most of the action scenes because he believed the realism of the sport was vital to the credibility of the story.
It wasn't all smooth sailing.
Despite his strong run, some projects did not achieve the impact he hoped for. In 2020, he appeared in the romantic comedy Gençliğim Eyvah, but the format never quite suited his more dramatic style. It was a necessary detour before he made the leap to the major historical productions that would define his professional maturity.
Filming for Destan in 2021 marked a major technical turning point. Set in the 8th century, the series required him to spend months training with swords and riding horses in extreme weather conditions. He played Temur Tegin, and his physical presence became much rougher and more forceful.
In 2023, he returned to contemporary drama with Ateş Kuşları. In this production, he took on the role of Commissioner Barbaros and dove into a story about street children and social redemption. The actor signed a long-term contract that kept him tied to the project for several seasons of steady success on ATV.
But music never really left him.
Tozkoparan keeps his music band, Pervane, active. He balances 14-hour filming days with late-night rehearsals and studio recording sessions. In 2024, the actor still lives in Istanbul and keeps a low profile in the Turkish media. His most recent registered film appearance is in Mest-i Aşk, where he plays Sultan Walad under the direction of Hassan Fathi.
