Christopher Knight entered the living rooms of millions of homes in 1969, unaware that the role of Peter Brady would follow him forever. He was eleven years old when ABC premiered The Brady Bunch. That family sitcom was less about depth than about repeating a model of perfection that eventually wore out its own cast.
And the starting pay was just a few hundred dollars per episode.
During the five seasons the original series ran, the young actor learned that television fame is a gilded cage. But the end of the project in 1974 delivered a reality check that was hard to swallow for a teenager who had only known sound stages. Knight suddenly found himself in an industry that typecast him mercilessly.
In the late 1970s, casting directors only saw him as the middle brother in a fictional family. Knight decided he didn't want to beg for supporting roles in low-budget productions (although he took on minor projects to pay the bills). His interest then shifted to an industry that had nothing to do with cameras.
He founded his first tech company in 1991.
He stepped away from the spotlight to sell graphics cards and 3D rendering software. His company, Visual Software, brought in millions of dollars before being sold in 1996. This stint in Silicon Valley at the time shows that his mind worked better with algorithms than with mediocre scripts.
In 1998 he created Eskape Labs to keep exploiting the computer hardware market. Technology gave him the financial freedom that television had denied him during his childhood. Knight was a successful businessman long before the public remembered his face again.
His return to the public eye came in 2003 with his appearance on The Surreal Life. Knight took on the challenge for the visibility and for a generous paycheck. There he met Adrianne Curry, and their relationship became the central focus of My Fair Brady in 2005.
Television devoured him once again.
That televised marriage ended in divorce in 2012 after years of constant exposure on gossip shows. Knight then realized his name was worth more than his acting talent. So he decided to use his image to launch a line of furniture and home decor that turned out to be a massive business.
In 2019, he took part in A Very Brady Renovation for the HGTV network. That project brought together the six fictional siblings to renovate the series' original house in Los Angeles. It was an exercise in technical nostalgia that drew millions of viewers nostalgic for the 1970s aesthetic.
In 2021, he shot the movie The Blending Christmas alongside former co-stars. Christopher Knight Home generated hundreds of millions of dollars in online sales over the past decade. In 2024, he produced the documentary Truelove: The Film, which focuses on rare diseases.
His net worth is estimated at 10 million dollars.
