Daniela Melchior didn't arrive in Los Angeles with a suitcase full of dreams. He arrived with dark circles built up over years of grueling shoots in Portuguese television. In 2014, he made his debut on the series Mulheres, and for three years he went from one production to the next, including Massa Fresca and Ouro Verde. It was the industrial pace of the soap opera, where thirty script pages are shot a day with no room for error.

That technical discipline allowed her to understand how a camera works before turning twenty. But the Portuguese market quickly became too small for her. In 2018 she made the leap to film with The Black Book and Parque Mayer. They were supporting roles that worked as a quiet calling card for international casting directors.

And then the call from James Gunn came.

The director was looking for an unfamiliar face to play Ratcatcher 2 in The Suicide Squad. Melchior sent a tape recorded at her home in Lisbon and ended up competing against actresses with far more Hollywood experience. Gunn was looking for an organic quality that he couldn't find at acting schools in California.

The Controlled Explosion of 2021

The release of The Suicide Squad in 2021 radically changed her fee. Her character was the emotional heart of a movie full of explosions and crude jokes. She managed to stand out among names like Margot Robbie and Idris Elba without raising her voice. Three million social media followers appeared on her account in just one month following the release in theaters and on streaming platforms.

But Melchior decided not to rush into just any generic series offer.

Because the goal was to break into the big action franchises cautiously. In 2023 she appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, fulfilling a personal promise to Gunn. That same year she joined the Fast X saga, playing Isabel. It was a complex shoot where the stunt scenes and the logistics of location production outweighed the development of the character.

The industry already saw her as a safe bet for genre films.

In 2024 she starred alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in the return of Road House. Filming in the Dominican Republic demanded a level of physical training she had not experienced during her years in television in Portugal. The film became one of the most-watched premieres in Prime Video history, with fifty million viewers in its first two weeks.

Projects and the Motorsports Market

The actress keeps a low profile in the gossip press and prefers to focus on filmmaking craft. In 2025 she is set to premiere Balls Up under the direction of Peter Farrelly. It is an action comedy she shot on locations in Queensland, Australia, alongside Mark Wahlberg.

And the pace shows no sign of slowing down.

Also in 2025, she signed on to take part in American Speed alongside Tom Hopper. The production is handled by Amazon MGM Studios and centers on the real story of the Whittington brothers, racing drivers involved in smuggling scandals. The contract stipulates an eight-week shooting schedule in Atlanta with a budget of over eighty million dollars.
