Debs Howard was born in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, and moved to Canada with a clear goal. She wasn't chasing instant fame but aimed to establish herself in Vancouver's industry. In 2015, she landed her first major role in the series iZombie, playing Brianna.
That shoot taught her that Canadian television moves in very aggressive production cycles. She filmed her scenes in just four days, and that opened the door to other genre series. But before getting there, she had to juggle auditions with work as a commercial model.
And the plan worked.
During 2016 she took part in science fiction projects such as The 100 and Travelers. These supporting roles allowed her to specialize in characters who add narrative tension without needing much screen time. At that time, the Vancouver market was looking for performers who could work fast and with strong vocal technique.
Starting in 2018, her career took a different direction toward TV movies. Producers of romantic and holiday films found in her a constant presence. In 2020 she starred in A Christmas to Cherish, playing Darcy, and built a very specific profile in the industry.
Productions like this are usually shot in three weeks. Debs Howard learned to handle 80-page scripts with minimal rehearsal time. In 2021, she took part in Let’s Get Married under director Jeff Beesley for the Lifetime network. It was a busy year on closed sets due to international travel restrictions.
There was no turning back.
Her ability to move from romantic drama to suspense became evident in 2019 with The Haunting of Sharon Tate. She shared the cast of this film with Hilary Duff. Although critics were harsh on the screenplay, she received positive comments for her dramatic restraint in the scenes of greatest physical violence.
The streaming boom changed the game for actors based in Canada. Between 2021 and 2023, she was part of the cast of Firefly Lane, playing a young Joy. This Netflix series gave her global visibility that TV movies had not provided until then.
In 2023 she appeared in the television adaptation of The Last of Us for HBO. She took part in the season's first episode, playing one of the Miller family's neighbors at the start of the outbreak. The production had a budget of $10 million per episode, and her involvement was limited to highly intense technical sequences.
That shoot in Alberta demanded a level of physical coordination far beyond her earlier work in romantic comedies.
Debs Howard maintains her residence in Vancouver and remains represented by Lucas Talent. In 2024, her professional credits surpassed fifty on-screen appearances across film and television. The contract for her latest production for a video-on-demand platform prohibits disclosing technical details until 2026.
