Dennis Mojen was born in Hamburg in 1993 and grew up surrounded by scripts and casting calls. His parents were already in the industry, which helped him understand the rhythms of filming long before he turned ten. But the family name didn't hand him the craft.
He made his film debut in 2009 with a supporting role in Summertime Blues. That experience was his first real contact with the German film industry and gave him a chance to test himself in front of the camera. For him, acting was never child's play but a technical discipline.
Patience is his greatest technical virtue.
In 2015, he appeared in Tatort, the legendary police series that serves as a barometer for any actor in Germany. His work there was tight and precise. That's when casting directors started seeing something more in him than a youthful face for teen dramas.
In 2020, his career took off with the release of Isi & Ossi. It was the first German-produced film for Netflix, and his performance as a humble boxer connected with audiences abroad. It reached the top 10 most-watched titles in dozens of countries for several consecutive weeks.
That project not only gave him visibility but also defined his profile as a physical actor. Mojen prefers roles whose characters face obvious physical hardships to tell a story.
In 2021, he joined the cast of the Belgian series Into the Night, playing an Italian soldier in a science fiction setting. Filming took place on locations in Belgium and Bulgaria under strict safety protocols. The actor, however, wasn't intimidated by the change of language or tone.
While preparing for Sixty Minutes in 2024, the actor locked himself in the gym to master the fight choreography. He wasn't after a clean look. He wanted viewers to feel the exhaustion in every long take of the film (a production directed by Oliver Kienle).
Mojen sees acting as a process of wear and tear. For him, truth lies not in the dialogue but in how the body reacts to exhaustion. So he decided to shoot most of his stunt scenes without backup stunt doubles.
German action cinema has found a new benchmark.
In 2022 he starred in The Privilege, a foray into teen horror that performed well on digital platforms. Although the script was fantastic, he kept a restrained tone that anchored the film in reality. Critics praised his ability to sustain tension without resorting to unnecessary histrionics.
His name appears in the credits of more than forty European productions since he began working professionally. Most of his contracts include specific clauses about technical training before filming begins. The average budget of his productions in 2024 is around eight million euros per project.
