Dior Goodjohn was born in Santa Monica in 2006, and her first encounter with a set happened almost before she learned her multiplication tables. At just seven years old, she appeared in Glee as the young version of Santana Lopez. It was a brief cameo, but it helped Los Angeles casting directors start to remember her name.
She spent much of her childhood going to auditions and photo shoots for teen clothing brands. But her real interest wasn't in the runway; it was in building complex characters that moved away from the child prodigy stereotype. In 2021, she joined the reboot of the comedy Head of the Class to bring Robyn Rooke to life.
The series was canceled after just one season.
Despite the early cancellation of the production, her performance as a tech-savvy teenager caught the attention of Disney Plus producers. There was something in her gaze and in the way she held the screen that fit the action profiles the platform was looking for in its major franchises.
In 2022, it was announced that Goodjohn would play Clarisse La Rue in the TV adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The role demanded an imposing physical presence and controlled aggression that contrasted with her earlier work on broadcast television. Clarisse is not a flat villain but a warrior with a heavy emotional burden, which the actress brought out from the very first episode.
And the gamble paid off.
During filming of the first season in Vancouver, the actress underwent intensive combat training with spear and shield. The creators wanted the action scenes to feel real and not rely too heavily on stunt doubles. In 2023, the series premiered to massive viewership that put it at the center of the global TV fan debate.
Her chemistry with the rest of the young cast was essential to making the dynamics of Camp Half-Blood believable to readers of the original books. But Goodjohn didn't just repeat the dialogue from Rick Riordan's novels. She brought a subtle vulnerability beneath the leather armor that humanized the daughter of Ares.
The change of pace was total.
Before wielding Clarisse's spear, the actress had already explored darker genres in the anthology Are You Afraid of the Dark? during 2022. In the episode titled Ghost Island, she played Zelda with a restrained dramatic quality that surprised critics who specialize in teen horror. Her ability to switch between sitcom comedy and suspense set her apart from interchangeable child actors.
But her creative side doesn't end when the lights go off on the film set. Goodjohn writes her own music and has played guitar for years, with a style that blends soul and alternative pop influences. In 2024, she began working on professional demos to define her own sound, outside the demands of the film studios.
The industry took note of her creative independence.
In production for the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, scheduled to shoot between 2024 and 2025, her character gains weight in the main storyline. The writers decided to expand her action sequences after seeing the technical results of her fight choreography in earlier episodes. The actress uses a carbon fiber spear designed specifically for her height and weight on the Vancouver set.
