Edvin Ryding is not an algorithm-made product. In 2009, he debuted in the miniseries Mannen under trappan at just six years old. That first experience on Swedish television set a path that others might have abandoned out of exhaustion.
But he chose to stay.
As a child, he took on projects such as Fröken Frimans krig and Kronjuvelerna. He wasn't seeking international fame because his professional world was limited to the Nordic market. The Stockholm industry watched him grow up under the spotlight and in scripts while his classmates focused on basic studies.
And that was no accident.
In 2015 he joined the cast of Gåsmamman to play Linus Ek. This suspense series was key to understanding his technical growth. He worked on it for years, and that continuity helped him grasp how a large-scale production works long before he came of age.
The premiere of Young Royals in 2021 permanently changed the scale of his work. Playing Prince Wilhelm meant facing a level of global exposure that Swedish cinema rarely experiences. International critics praised his ability to convey anguish without relying on big dramatic gestures.
Three seasons were enough to put his name on lists of Europe's most influential young actors. But Ryding stayed grounded.
In 2022, he received the Rising Star award at the Stockholm Film Festival. This honor confirmed that his career did not depend solely on a social media fan phenomenon. The European industry began to see in him an actor capable of carrying author-driven projects beyond the youth phenomenon.
Because success didn't stop him.
During the filming of the series, he balanced his commitments with voice dubbing for animated films. He lent his voice to characters in Swedish versions of major Hollywood productions (such as Pixar's Onward) to keep his vocal training active.
In 2023, he took a step into disaster films with The Abyss. In this movie, he played Simon and shared the screen with actors of the caliber of Tuva Novotny. The project demanded more physical effort than his previous work in period dramas or family series.
He reached 2.3 million followers on digital platforms without hiring an external communications agency during the first years of his career. He managed his own image with a restraint unusual for his generation.
In May 2024, the feature film A Part of You premiered on Netflix. In this movie, he played Noel and explored themes such as grief and teenage identity from a much rawer perspective. Sigge Eklund's screenplay allowed him to move away from the polished image the public associated with his beginnings.
His training didn't end on the film sets. Ryding has expressed interest in directing and executive producing to control creative processes from the ground up. In 2024, he began getting involved in developing scripts for projects that will hit the screen in the following years.
Production company SF Studios confirmed that Ryding finished filming his final scenes for 2024 after a total of 14 hours of nonstop work on location at night.
