Training in the Calgary cold

Edward Ruttle didn't need a stroke of luck in Los Angeles to launch his career. His first real steps were taken in the cold of Calgary, Canada, where the local theater provided shelter from the weather.

In 2012, he landed a role in the series Arctic Air. The shoot was tough because of the weather, but it taught him how a high-budget television set works. Two years later, in 2014, he appeared in Hell on Wheels.

And then he decided that acting wasn't enough.

The Obsession With Creative Control

Ruttle didn't want to be just a talking head waiting for his agent's call. So he started getting involved in executive producing to have a say in the stories he told.

In 2021, he produced and starred in A New Year’s Resolution. He managed to control the process from script to final cut. For him, the industry is a business of management as well as an art.

Meanwhile, commercial television kept knocking on his door on a regular basis.

During 2015 he joined the cast of Good Witch as Michael. This stage was key because it gave him financial stability and visibility in a much gentler genre than his previous work. In 2018 he appeared in The Flash, joining the superhero machine of the CW network.

A Haven in Genre Television

The actor has moved between medical drama and holiday movies without losing his stride. In 2020 he shot Jingle Bell Bride for Hallmark. It's a market many actors look down on, but it allowed him to fund his own experimental projects.

In 2024, he played Jordan in the series The Good Doctor. It was a brief but intense role that coincided with his foray into animated voice work. That same year, he voiced Axle in the series Hot Wheels Let’s Race.

His voice worked as a steady professional tool.

Ruttle has more than thirty television credits across guest spots and recurring roles. Filming The Good Doctor in 2024 took place mainly in Vancouver under strict union protocols.
