Mark Ghanimé was born in Calgary in 1977. He grew up in Montreal surrounded by French and Arabic because of his Lebanese roots. But acting wasn't in his plans as a young man, because his mind worked in business terms. Before turning twenty-five, he worked in real estate and sought financial stability that had nothing to do with the spotlight.
Everything changed because of a TV commercial. A small role as an extra in an advertising campaign sparked a curiosity that led him to sign up for acting classes. That move seemed like a hobby but became his lifelong profession.
The performance was a happy accident.
His first professional steps were supporting roles in series such as Smallville and Supernatural. In 2012, he took part in Soldiers of the Apocalypse and began to understand how the Canadian industry worked. Those short shoots taught him that in television, time is money and preparation is everything.
In 2014, the project that pulled Ghanimé out of international obscurity arrived. He played Major Sergio Balleseros in the science fiction series Helix, produced by Syfy. The shoot was grueling due to the simulated weather conditions and the intensity of the script. Ghanimé shot thirteen episodes of the first season, and his character was one of the most talked-about among genre fans.
But the actor didn't want to be typecast in physical action roles. During 2015 and 2016, he alternated between appearances in series of different genres to keep casting directors from seeing him only as a military man. And the bet paid off.
He appeared in the series The Bold Type, playing Dev in 2017. It was a necessary change of pace that showed he could handle fast-paced dialogue and urban settings. By then, his name was already appearing regularly on lists of the strongest supporting actors on North American television.
Ghanimé understood the rhythm of melodrama.
In 2022, his career took a massive leap in visibility when he joined the fourth season of Virgin River. He joined the cast to play Dr. Cameron Hayek. The challenge was huge, because the Netflix series already had a millions-strong audience that was very protective of the original characters. His arrival in the fictional town created the necessary tension in the main romantic storyline.
During the filming of 2023 in Vancouver, the actor had to adapt to the shooting style of rural dramas. The workdays began at dawn on natural locations in British Columbia. His contract was extended through the sixth season, officially confirmed in 2024.
Beyond long-running series, he has worked in holiday-themed TV movies. In 2020, he starred in Candy Cane Christmas, and in 2021 he filmed A Christmas Waltz. These are productions designed for family viewing that require a very specific acting technique based on naturalness and warmth.
In 2024, the actor settled between Vancouver and Los Angeles to coordinate his independent production projects. Production costs for the sixth season of Virgin River stayed in line with the standards of previous seasons filmed in Canada.
