Synopsis of Helix

A team of scientists from the CDC, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States, led by Doctors Alan Farragut and Sarah Jordan, travels to a biological research station in the Arctic. Their mission is to study a viral outbreak that, at first glance, seems limited in scope. They soon discover that the situation has far more serious and widespread consequences for the entire world. Trapped in an isolated environment, they must figure out what is happening before the threat escapes the base. The series, created by Ronald D. Moore and Cameron Porsandeh, airs on Syfy and stars Billy Campbell.

Trivia about Helix

Each episode covers one day in the story, so the thirteen episodes of the first season take place over less than two weeks.

The show doesn't rely on flashbacks like Lost does. Some characters relive traumatic memories in hallucinations caused by the fever from the infection.

Moore proposed several key ideas, but he did not write the pilot script, which was the work of Cameron Porsandeh.

In Spain, the first season premiered on January 9, 2015 on Movistar Series' video-on-demand service.

The first season earned a 79% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and 67% on Metacritic.

Syfy renewed "Helix" for a second season of 13 episodes on March 28, 2014, after the first season averaged 2.1 million total viewers and made the network the second-ranked cable TV channel among adults ages 25 to 54.

Production filmed two episodes at a time and out of order, a method that executive producer Steve Maeda described as especially demanding for the cast over the six months of work.
