Basketball as a Failed Plan

Ekin Mert Daymaz was born in Arnhem, Netherlands, on December 2, 1990. His family returned to Turkey when he was a child, and his first real ambition was professional basketball. A serious ligament injury cut short his progress on the court and pushed him to look for a quick way into modeling.

In 2013, he finished third in the Best Model of Turkey competition.

That podium served as his passport into the television industry without any formal training in acting. His first steps were hesitant, but his physical presence convinced the casting directors of the series Not Defteri in 2014. There he played Egemen and began to understand how a professional film set works.

The Romantic Comedy Toll

His mass recognition came in 2015 with Çilek Kokusu. This production paired him with Demet Özdemir and quickly typecast him as the summer heartthrob. The success of a show in Turkey often comes with advertising contracts that limit an actor's range for years.

In 2018, he tried to move away from flat characters with the drama Ağlama Anne. On this project, he shared scenes with heavyweight actresses such as Birce Akalay, proving he could handle scripts with more emotional weight. But the Turkish market is merciless when it comes to ratings, and the series didn't get the run the production company had hoped for.

The industry shows no mercy for mistakes.

In 2020, he starred in Gençliğim Eyvah, where he explored a funnier, more ensemble-driven side. Two years later, in 2022, he headlined the cast of Seni Kalbime Sakladım, playing Civanmert. The TRT 1 network abruptly canceled the series after just seven episodes due to low ratings on Thursday nights.

Shoots Under the Pressure of Ratings

During 2023, he focused on film with the movie Papatya. This move aimed to broaden his image beyond the TV sets, where shooting schedules usually exceed twelve hours a day. Because the pace of Turkish series wears out even the most athletic profiles.

His career is a coin toss.

In 2024, he joined the cast of Bir Sevdadır, bringing Tufan Dağlı to life (a character with darker shades than his previous work). The production shot its main scenes in rural locations and closed studios in Istanbul to meet international export quotas. The series Bir Sevdadır ended its run in May 2024 after thirteen episodes.
