Federica Sabatini was born in Rome in 1993, and there she learned early that silence in front of the camera says more than a scream. Her training at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia was no bureaucratic formality but an immersion in the rawest Italian realism. Before reaching the major platforms, she worked in short films and small parts that nobody remembers.
And that technical foundation shows in every frame.
In 2017, she appeared in Sulla mia pelle, a film that shook Italy's political foundations. Although her role was not the lead, the industry began to take notice of her ability to hold tension without barely blinking. But the real shift in her career came when Netflix turned its eyes to the streets of Ostia to expand its crime fiction catalog.
Nadia was the character who gave her international recognition in 2019. In the series Suburra, she played the daughter of a mob boss who ends up taking control of her own survival. Sabatini avoided the easy tricks of the femme fatale to build a woman who dealt with violence with cold composure.
Many actors would have been stuck in that criminal typecast forever.
But she preferred to move on to productions where language was an added challenge. So in 2021, she joined the cast of the Spanish series Toy Boy for its second season. Shooting on the Costa del Sol was a complete shift in visual and narrative tone from the darkness of her earlier work in Rome.
In the few interviews she gives, Sabatini often says she prefers characters who have something to hide. That philosophy let her take on projects in very different markets without losing her identity.
The actress proved her English was strong enough to work in the Anglo-American market without sounding forced. In 2022, she joined Red Rose, a horror production for the BBC in which she played Erica. It was a smart move to step away for good from the mob drama that made her known in Europe.
In 2024, she took part in the series The Decameron, a dark comedy set during the Black Death, shot in Italy with American money. The production used the Cinecittà studios to recreate the 14th-century Tuscan countryside with a massive technical effort.
Sabatini still lives in Italy, but her name is already on the books at United Agents in London. Filming of her scenes for the production Prophetess wrapped at various European locations at the end of 2025.
The actress signed an exclusivity contract for three international projects that bars her from revealing plot details before theatrical release.
