Grace Park was born in Los Angeles in 1974, but her professional identity was forged under the gray skies of Canada. She studied psychology at the University of British Columbia before advertising came knocking. That was not the original plan. But modeling opened the door to Canadian television by accident in the late nineties.
In 2001, she landed her first major role on the teen series Edgemont. There she played Shannon Ng for five seasons while learning the ins and outs of daily television production. It was the perfect training ground for what came next in big-budget science fiction.
Her luck changed in 2003.
Ronald D. Moore chose her to play Sharon Valerii in the return of Battlestar Galactica. The role was complex because it required her to portray several versions of the same android with deep moral conflicts. Park brought a fragility that contrasted with the series' military toughness and kept the character from falling into the stereotype of the soulless machine.
And the gamble paid off.
After the end of the space odyssey, Park landed on the beaches of Hawaii. In 2010, she joined the main cast of Hawaii Five-0 to bring Kono Kalakaua to life. For seven years, her presence on CBS was constant, and her face became a familiar sight in homes across half the world. But the executives dictated an abrupt ending to her contract.
In 2017, the actress demanded pay equity with her male co-stars. The network refused to match the salaries of the white leads, even though she was a key part of the storyline. Park walked away from the series immediately along with her co-star Daniel Dae Kim, after failing to reach a fair deal.
The decision was final.
That detour did not stall her career. In 2018, she joined the cast of A Million Little Things as Katherine Kim. The series explored grief and friendship in Boston through a lawyer trying to balance her career with a family life in crisis. The change of pace was total.
Park filmed the final episode of this television chapter in 2023. Over the show's 87 episodes, her character evolved from professional rigidity to an emotional openness that connected with audiences. She did it while keeping a low public profile, far from the Hollywood spotlight. Park has always preferred to let her work speak for her.
Unlike many actors of her generation, she systematically avoids social media. She prefers the privacy of Vancouver, where she usually lives with her family. Her focus now is on the quality of scripts rather than the number of releases each year. She puts personal stability first over constant media exposure.
Her name remains linked to independent production projects and voice work.
In 2024, she took part in the animated series Adventures in Wonder Park, voicing the princess. Her contract included a flexible recording schedule so she could manage her private affairs in Canada. The production closed with a technical budget of $12 million per season.
