Han Ji-eun went through a casting process of four thousand two hundred candidates to land the role of Han Ye-won in the film Real from 2017. It was an all-or-nothing gamble that defined her true entry into the Korean industry after years of invisible roles. At the time, the press only talked about the nude scenes and the risk of working on such a divisive project.
No one expected an unknown to win that showdown.
Her debut came in 2010 with the horror film Ghost, and seven years passed before a headline with her name caught the attention of critics in Seoul. During that time, she took on minor and supporting projects without a name of her own. But the opportunity of 2017 permanently changed her pace of work.
Her mass recognition came in 2019 with Be Melodramatic. In this series, she played Hwang Han-joo, a single mother who works at a drama production company and must deal with the absurd demands of the advertising industry. Lee Byeong-heon's direction allowed Han Ji-eun to show a comedic and vulnerable side she had not explored on the big screen.
And she got there through sheer repetition.
In 2020, she took part in Kkondae Intern, playing Lee Tae-ri, a character who broke away from the standards of the submissive office worker. Korean audiences responded with strong ratings, and the industry began to see her as a safe bet for socially minded romantic comedy. That same year, she filmed Lovestruck in the City for digital platforms.
The production of Bad and Crazy in 2021 marked a major physical change in her career. She played Lee Hui-gyeom, a narcotics unit detective who required intense training in martial arts and weapons handling. She worked alongside Lee Dong-wook and Wi Ha-joon in a story where violence and a frenetic pace dominated every episode.
Because physical appearance has always been a secondary tool for her.
In 2022, she starred in Stock Struck, a series that tried to explain the phenomenon of young people investing in the stock market in South Korea. It was a niche project that performed well in international markets interested in Asian financial culture. But her most ambitious leap was planned for 2025 with the science fiction series Ask the Stars.
In this 2025 project, she plays Choi Go-eun, an heiress with an elite academic background. The production of Ask the Stars had an estimated budget of 50,000 million won.
