Jessica Barth was waiting tables at three restaurants in Los Angeles when Seth MacFarlane gave her her first real break. She had solid theater training, but the industry only saw in her a very specific blonde look for supporting roles.
In 2012, she played Tami-Lynn McCafferty in Ted. Audiences assumed she was a native of Boston because of her command of the working-class Massachusetts accent. In reality, she was born in Philadelphia and earned a degree in communications and theater from West Chester University.
The film earned $549 million at theaters worldwide.
And the bet on that character paid off so well that MacFarlane gave her much greater dramatic weight in the sequel to 2015. Barth had to deal with a script that mixed crude humor with a storyline about civil rights and motherhood.
Her career took a serious turn in 2017. Barth was one of the first actresses to publicly accuse Harvey Weinstein of assault. She recounted an incident in 2011 in a hotel room where the producer tried to trade sexual favors for job promises.
But she didn't stop at public complaints.
She founded the nonprofit Voices in Action to protect victims of harassment in the entertainment industry. Running this platform took time away from the cameras but gave her a moral authority that few names in Hollywood maintain.
Because for her, activism was not a red carpet pose. She worked directly with lawmakers to change statutes of limitations for sex crimes in the state of California.
After the success of Seth MacFarlane comedies, she decided to explore horror and suspense films. In 2024, she took part in the shoot of Slumber Party Slaughterhouse, directed by Serene Foster. The project revived the B-movie aesthetic that Barth had always championed in technical interviews.
In 2025, she became involved in the production of The Last Call. Her interest in creative control led her to spend more time in the editing suite than at costume fittings.
Her voice remains part of popular culture thanks to her recurring work on Family Guy.
The actress keeps a low profile in mainstream Spanish media, but her influence on safety protocols on today's film sets is total. The foundation she chairs currently handles more than 500 active legal advisory cases.
