Anne Peichert wasn't looking to become an actress when she entered a talent contest in 2013. Her stage name, Louane, blends her real first name with that of her sister Louise. But director Éric Lartigau saw something in her that went beyond music while watching her on his television screen.
Filming La Famille Bélier in 2014 forced her to learn sign language in record time. The film drew more than seven million moviegoers in France. She won the César for Best Actress Revelation in 2015, and her life changed irreversibly before she turned twenty.
And the music industry wasted no time embracing her.
Her debut studio album was titled Chambre 12. It hit stores in 2015 and stayed at the top of the French sales charts for weeks. But its commercial success coincided with the loss of both of her parents within just a few months. She chose not to talk about it in the promotional interviews of that period.
In 2017, she released her second self-titled album. Louane sought a more mature sound and collaborated with artists such as Benjamin Biolay. The album reached number one in France and Switzerland. But the film world kept calling with projects that moved away from the light comedies of her early career.
She lent her voice to the French dub of Trolls in 2016 and appeared in the film Nos patriotes in 2017. In the latter, she played a young resistance fighter during the Nazi occupation. It was a deliberate attempt to move away from the cheerful teen image the press had given her.
Critics weren't always kind about her choices.
In 2020, she released Joie de vivre with a much more polished visual aesthetic. By then, she was in control of much of her creative process. In 2022, she returned to television with the suspense series Visions, playing a child psychologist facing inexplicable phenomena.
Filming for Marie-Line et son juge in 2023 marked her return to the big screen as the undisputed lead. Jean-Pierre Améris cast her as a struggling woman who finds an unexpected ally in a strict judge. The production had a budget of five million euros and was shot mainly in the Le Havre area.
In 2024, the artist signed a renewal of her distribution deal with Mercury Records covering her next three studio albums.
