Luna Wedler had no intention of becoming a professional actress when she auditioned for Amateur Teens in 2015.
She was only looking for a new experience before continuing her dance studies, but director Niklaus Hilber saw something in her gaze that changed her plans. That debut in her hometown acted as a quiet engine.
That shoot permanently changed her career path.
After that first taste of the industry, she decided to train at the European Film Actor School in Zurich between 2016 and 2018. She didn't want to be a passing face in Swiss cinema, and she understood that technique was the only way to survive long-term in an industry that devours young talent.
In 2017, she landed the role that made European critics learn her last name.
The film Blue My Mind explored the physical transformation of a teenage girl in a biological and unsettling way. Wedler carried the entire film and won the Swiss Film Award for Best Actress at just seventeen years old.
It was a risky bet.
But the gamble paid off: at the 2018 Berlinale, she was named one of the continent's Shooting Stars. That recognition opened the door to German-language productions with much bigger budgets.
Her move to Germany came with the comedy Das schönste Mädchen der Welt in 2018. There, she showed she could handle the rhythm of teen humor without losing the natural touch that defines her in darker dramas. The film was a box office hit in German cinemas.
Netflix came knocking in 2020 to star in the series Biohackers.
The production was shot at the University of Freiburg labs and reached a global audience of millions of viewers. She played Mia Akerlund over two seasons until 2021 and learned to work on high-intensity shoots with complex visual effects.
In 2021, she appeared in Je suis Karl, a political thriller that competed at top-tier festivals. The plot tackled the rise of extremism in Europe and demanded a restrained dramatic performance that Wedler delivered with precision. The Berlin shoot was one of the most demanding of her career due to the ideological weight of the script.
Auteur projects soon followed.
During 2023, she worked under Margarethe von Trotta in Ingeborg Bachmann – Reise in die Wüste. Sharing the screen with Vicky Krieps in a period production raised her profile among Europe's most demanding film circles.
The 2024 production Marianengraben brought her back to emotional drama, telling a story about grief and loss. That same year, she appeared in the big-budget production Hagen, based on Germanic mythology, where the production design reached epic levels.
In 2024, she also premiered The Last Front, a World War I war drama where she worked alongside Iain Glen. The film had a budget of fifteen million euros and was shot entirely on location in Belgium.
