Natasha Little was born in Liverpool in 1969. Her training at the Loughton Drama School gave her the tools she needed to survive an industry that tends to devour new faces every season. Before moving into film, she worked in theater and in supporting roles on series such as London's Burning.
In 1998, the BBC made a decision that would change her career. The network chose her to star in Vanity Fair. That adaptation of Thackeray's novel required an actress capable of carrying the weight of an ambitious and manipulative woman.
The gamble paid off.
Her performance as Becky Sharp earned her a BAFTA nomination for Best Actress in Television in 1999. But beyond the awards, Little achieved something harder. She made audiences empathize with a character who, in another actress's hands, would have come across as simply hateful.
Her acting style relies on restraint. She doesn't need grand gestures to convey a threat or a deep disappointment. That calculated coolness became her greatest professional tool throughout the 1990s.
After success on British television, a move into international film seemed the logical next step. In 1999, she took part in The Criminal and shortly after in Another Life. Still, her screen presence fit best in productions where the script demanded surgical precision in its dialogue.
In 2009, she shot Mr. Nobody under the direction of Jaco Van Dormael. She shared the cast with Jared Leto in a production with a budget of 47 million euros. It was one of the most ambitious European film projects of that year.
Then came professional maturity.
From 2010 onward, her presence in prestige series became steady. In 2016, she played Lady Caroline Langbourne in The Night Manager. The series, directed by Susanne Bier, became a global phenomenon. Little brought the British elegance the production needed to portray the circles of power in the arms trade.
She doesn't seek the spotlight in every scene. She prefers to work from the shadows of the supporting character who holds the main plot together. She showed this as well in War of the Worlds in 2019, where she played Sarah Gresham over three seasons.
Silence speaks louder than a scream.
In 2022 she joined the cast of Ten Percent. The British version of the hit French series allowed her to explore a lighter register without losing the restraint that defines her. Still, she always returns to dark drama, where she feels most at home.
In 2023, she appeared in the series The Chemistry of Death, based on the novels by Simon Beckett. The production was shot mainly on location in Norfolk and Glasgow. The actress plays Gunther in a plot that blends medical procedural with the rawest psychological thriller.
She lives in London with her husband, actor Adrian Rawlins. The couple has two children and keeps a private life far from the English tabloid press. Little has appeared in more than 60 productions across film and television since her professional debut in 1994.
