Rob Estes

Rob Estes arrived in Los Angeles intending to become a stunt double. He studied at the University of Southern California and soon realized that his looks suited him better in front of the camera than falling off buildings to protect other actors with less of a jaw. In 1986 he landed a role on the soap opera Days of Our Lives. That gave him the experience needed to keep up with the pace of commercial television.

The money came in, but prestige was something else.

In 1991 he signed on to play Sergeant Chris Lorenzo in Silk Stalkings. The series worked because his chemistry with Mitzi Kapture was real and its light noir tone suited the audience of the time. He shot more than a hundred episodes before his character died in a shootout in 1995. His exit was therefore agreed with the producers so he could seek new challenges in prime time.

The Paid Rent of Melrose Place

In 1996 he entered the world of Aaron Spelling (an ecosystem where style mattered more than the script) to bring Kyle McBride to life. Sharing the set with his then-wife Josie Bissett made things easier logistically but complicated the couple's personal story. Still, the tabloid press of the 1990s gave them no rest. His salary per episode topped six figures, which allowed him to choose projects more calmly for a while.

Television devoured everything.

After a few years of supporting roles in cop shows, he took part in the return of 90210 in 2008. He played Harry Wilson, the high school principal, for two seasons with a steady, restrained touch. But his turn toward mass-appeal teen movies came much later and unexpectedly.

Maturity in Franchise Cinema

In 2020 he joined the After saga as Ken Scott. His role in After We Collided put him in front of a generation that didn't know who Kyle McBride was. He reprised the role in 2021 with After We Fell and in 2022 with After Ever Happy. It's a functional job in which he brings the gravity needed to a teen romantic drama.

No one expected the After phenomenon to rescue him from obscurity.

In 2023, he worked on Beautiful Disaster, and in 2024 he shot Beautiful Wedding on location in Europe. He lives in San Clemente and keeps a low profile away from the industry spotlight. His contract for the final installment of the After saga was closed for a flat fee with no box office bonuses.
