The Face That Emerged From Suspense

Seo Ji-hoon didn't need years of bit parts for the industry to take notice of him. In 2016, he appeared in Signal, playing a young man involved in a dark, cold crime. It was a brief role, but enough for casting directors to take note of his name. The tvN series ran like clockwork, and he fit in seamlessly among established actors.

That same year, he appeared in Solomon’s Perjury. Here he had more screen time and a heavier dramatic load. He played a student caught in a web of school lies after a classmate's death. Critics praised his ability to hold a steady gaze, a trait that would become a signature of his acting style.

He made a grand entrance.

In 2017, he joined the cast of School 2017. The project didn't draw massive ratings, but it helped establish his image as a reliable actor for youth dramas. Seo Ji-hoon has that mix of fragility and firmness that audiences love in Korean television. But he didn't want to get stuck in the school uniform.

The Trap of the Supporting Boy

Starting in 2018, he began taking on one project after another, where audiences saw him as the eternal suitor who never gets the girl. In Mama Fairy and the Woodcutter, he played a kind but somewhat clumsy graduate student. The series played with fantasy and folklore, but he provided the grounding needed to keep the story from floating too high.

He followed up with Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency in 2019. This time, he literally played a king, bringing Lee Soo to life. Nearly five million viewers tuned in for the premiere in its time slot. It was physically demanding due to the weight of the costume and the long days of outdoor shooting during the Korean winter.

And the gamble paid off.

Because the actor knew he needed to step away from light comedy. So in 2020 he agreed to star in Meow, the Secret Boy and To All the Guys Who Loved Me. In both projects, his characters dealt with rejection and emotional maturity. Before accepting a role, he usually reads the script looking for cracks in the character's personality, because he hates flat roles.

The Weight of the Universe BTS

In 2022, Seasons of Blossom arrived. The story tackled harsh themes such as teen suicide and extreme academic pressure. Seo Ji-hoon played Lee Ha-min (a character who lives across two different timelines). The drama left a deep impression thanks to its brutal honesty. His performance earned praise for its restraint in the crying scenes.

That same year, he shot Revenge of Others for a global streaming platform. He traded sweetness for something much darker and more mysterious. The plot revolved around revenge and school bullying. The shoot lasted several months and required intense physical preparation for the action and psychological tension scenes.

But the most ambitious project came with Begins ≠ Youth in 2024. It is a series based on the storyworld of the band BTS. Seo Ji-hoon took on the role of Kim Hwan (the character inspired by Jin). The pressure was enormous, given the global fan base that scrutinizes every detail of this franchise.

The premiere came after several production delays and international distribution problems. The series was shot mainly on location in Gyeonggi Province with a crew of more than one hundred people.
