Seol In-a spent nearly four years training to become a K-pop star. During that time, her routine consisted of dance and vocal classes to join a girl group. But the company decided to cancel the project shortly before its official launch.
That group never made its debut.
In 2015, she decided her path was acting and landed a very small role in the series The Producers. She had barely any lines. She was just one of many faces surrounding the leads in the TV network's offices. That experience taught her that the pace of filming had nothing to do with the rehearsal rooms of her trainee days.
During 2017, her name started to gain serious momentum thanks to her roles in Strong Girl Bong-soon and School 2017. These were supporting parts that kept her steadily working. In 2018, she landed her first leading role in the daily drama Sunny Again Tomorrow. The 121-episode production earned her the Best New Actress award at the KBS Drama Awards that same year.
She gained confidence and screen presence.
In 2020, she played Jo Hwa-jin in the historical comedy Mr. Queen. The role was complex because she had to navigate envy and melancholy within a palace setting. The series drew a massive audience in South Korea and on international platforms. It put the spotlight on her ability to handle more restrained dramatic registers.
The year 2022 marked her breakout moment with Business Proposal. She played Jin Young-seo, the lead's best friend. Her chemistry with actor Kim Min-kyu sparked thousands of videos on social media and, in several stretches of the broadcast, drew more interest than the main storyline. She made a supporting character feel essential to the rhythm of the comedy.
And the gamble paid off.
In 2023, she starred in Oasis alongside Jang Dong-yoon. It's a story set in the 80s and 90s that called for a much more serious and mature tone. That same year, she worked on Twinkling Watermelon, where she played a cellist in a time-travel plot. For that shoot, she had to learn the basics of the instrument and adjust her body language to that of a music student from the 90s.
In April 2024, her participation in the variety show Iron Girls on the tvN network was confirmed. The project focuses on extreme physical training to take part in a triathlon. The actress signed her contract with the agency Goldmedalist in May 2022 after wrapping up her time at OUI Entertainment.
