Shunsuke Takeuchi was seventeen when his deep voice boomed through the recording studios of The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls. In 2015, the Japanese voice acting industry stopped to take notice of a teenager who sounded like a man in his forties. He joined the 81 Produce agency after winning an audition against thousands of candidates, and soon found himself caught up in a frenetic work pace.
It was an immediate generational clash.
His role as the Producer required a dry, professional tone that contrasted with his limited life experience. And it worked, because Japanese audiences weren't looking for a pretty face but for a vocal presence that commanded respect. He won the Best New Actor award at the 2016 Seiyu Awards at just nineteen years old.
But the real trial by fire came in 2019. Disney had to find an urgent replacement for the voice of Olaf in Frozen II due to legal problems with the original actor. Takeuchi accepted the challenge, knowing the comparisons would be constant and merciless. Singing the musical numbers of such a beloved character required a vocal technique that few actors his age had mastered.
He made the transition feel seamless for the kids.
Because his ability to imitate high registers without losing warmth showed that his talent went beyond deep tones, his name soon began appearing in high-profile international productions. In 2022 he took part in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners as Caesar, and in 2023 he voiced Alexander Feyman in the series Pluto.
His interest in electronic music and composition lets him understand sound differently from his co-stars. He often spends hours in the studio analyzing the frequencies of his own voice to match them to the character's personality. In 2024, he worked on the series High Card as Love-P and kept his place in the Bleach franchise.
Technique won out over instinct.
Many sound directors in Tokyo praise his punctuality and his lack of ego when it comes to repeating complex takes. He isn't after personal glory but rather a seamless fit with the soundtrack and ambient effects. His contract with 81 Produce is still in effect, and he averages fifteen active projects per broadcast season.
In 2025, his work in the industry focused on three animated feature films and two role-playing video games for mobile platforms.
