It's a mad world, but there is still some sanity left; the loyalty of old friends!
Ancient Rome, during the reign of emperors Augustus and Tiberius (1st century AD). Judah Ben-Hur, son of a noble family from Jerusalem, and Messala, a Roman tribune who commands the occupying armies, are two old friends whose accidental clash turns them into bitter enemies: Ben-Hur is accused of attempting to assassinate the new Roman governor, and Messala imprisons him and his family. While Ben-Hur is sent to the galleys to serve his sentence, a man named Jesus of Nazareth takes pity on him and gives him water to drink. In the galleys, he will meet the ship's commander and later an Arab sheikh who races his magnificent horses in chariot races.
