Berlin, 1942. Bruno is eight years old and lives in a comfortable city home with his sister Gretel. His father has just been appointed commandant of a concentration camp and has been promoted, so the family must move to a remote area. Bruno doesn't really understand the reason for the move and misses his old life. In the new house, he can't find anyone his age to play with, and his mother forbids him from going into the back garden. From his bedroom window, he spots a fenced-off compound that he mistakes for a farm. Bruno wants to make friends, but the distance and the rules of his new home make that difficult. The film is directed by Mark Herman, and the role of Bruno is played by Asa Butterfield.
