Henry Spencer is a nervous, enigmatic man who works at a printing plant. The story takes place in a run-down industrial landscape, in a squalid world of decay, where Henry says he is on vacation. The film is shot in black and white and blends the real with the surreal from its first minutes. Henry has to take care of a profoundly deformed baby, and that responsibility forces him to confront a world that seems stranger by the day. Jack Nance plays the lead in this film directed by David Lynch, an unconventional story that moves between the grotesque and the dreamlike.

Trivia about Eraserhead

For a scene in which a bed dissolves into a pool of liquid, Lynch and Alan Splet put a microphone inside a plastic bottle, floated it in a bathtub and recorded the air moving through it.
The AFI gave the project the green light after reading a script of 21 pages, assuming that one page would equal one minute of screen time. By that math, the film would run about 20 minutes.
One scene in the film begins with Nance opening a door, and a full year passed before they filmed her walking into the room.
After a poorly received test screening, Lynch cut 20 minutes of footage. Among the deleted material is a scene in which Coulson acts as the midwife for the baby.
